The task
The launch of this beer is a step out of the comfort zone, the unusual type of beer from the Budvar brewery.
Budvar 33 is a typical Czech lager with a special feature. It is bitter. The bitterness is being reflected into its name. It has exactly 33 units of bitterness (IBU), mainly thanks to the Czech hop Agnus, which makes it the most bitter beer within the Budvar’s portfolio. Consumers can enjoy its interesting color and a smooth taste.
The basic unifying elements of the entire portfolio are the unique red color and the Futura PT Demi font. However, each beer has different personality, which is reflected in the design. The main design element of Budvar 33 is the typographically processed number 33 with an abraded structure and the Budvar brand name is deliberately processed in a different style than other products. The intention was to underline the bold and exceptional character of the product.
Complementary elements are the structured white background of the plaster and 100% black color. This texture of the background complements the abraded texture of the number 33. It speaks roughness, bitterness and stands out from the portfolio. You can still feel the Czech craft from the design supported by the stamp of the Czech lion.
In context of the portfolio the B33 bottle is always shown in tilted position, which says that it is different. The 33 is rebel, it is bold and modern.
